LWCF funding needed.


Today, I read with keen interest your article in the November issue on the Land and Water Conservation Fund The United States' Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) is a Federal program that was established by Act of Congress in 1965. The Act designated that a portion of receipts from offshore oil and gas leases[1] . It brought back old memories from when I was the executive director of the Americans Outdoors Commission chaired now by Senator Lamar Alexander Andrew Lamar Alexander (born July 3, 1940) is the senior United States Senator from Tennessee and a member of the Republican Party. He was previously the 45th Governor of Tennessee from 1979 to 1987, U.S. Secretary of Education from 1991 to 1993 under President George H.W. , and we recommended one billion dollars a year for LWCF LWCF Land and Water Conservation Fund

. Of course, it never happened.

Then, I went on to be mayor of Knoxville, Tenn., for 16 years and president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors in 1995-96 where we advocated funding for the LWCF.

Hopefully, its time will come or has even arrived. I wanted to tell you how much I agree with your sentiments.
