) and U.S. Representative Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-N R-N Raion (Russian, district; used in postal addresses) .J.) announced in April the addition of six acres to the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge The Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge is located in Morris County and Somerset County, New Jersey, about 25 miles (40 km) west of Manhattan's Times Square. It is one of more than 544 refuges in the National Wildlife Refuge System that is administered by the United States .

The newly-acquired land is part of the Passaic River Farm in Harding Township, N.J. Rep. Frelinghuysen secured $1 million from the Land and Water Conservation Fund The United States' Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) is a Federal program that was established by Act of Congress in 1965. The Act designated that a portion of receipts from offshore oil and gas leases[1]  for the purchase of the property. FWS plans to convert a renovated farmhouse, a barn and several outbuildings on the land into facilities, including visitor services, exhibits, a gift shop, meeting rooms and offices.

"The Great Swamp is the most significant national treasure amid northern New Jersey's densely pop-dated areas, and it is important that we protect it against the threat of future development" Frelinghuysen said.

The land completes a 50-acre acquisition from the same landowner from whom two other parcels totaling 44 acres were purchased in 2003 and 2004.
