7 Announces Availability of FASTPATHnp(TM) Software

LVL7 Systems, the networking software company that is unleashing NP power at every level, introduced today its line of FASTPATHnp software offerings for the network processor (NP) market.

LVL7's embedded network processor software solution is more complete and robust than any other software package in the industry. The FASTPATHnp architecture is operating system independent and includes verified protocols and applications for multiple NP platforms and operating systems. And, unlike other software offerings in the industry, LVL7's FASTPATHnp software features a complete, system-verified solution that includes the critical and time-consuming NP microcode and device driver code. This complete package, along with LVL7's extensive testing process, enables networking manufacturers to shorten product development cycles and improve time-to-revenue.

"Our FASTPATHnp software fills a void in the market and positions us as the best company to provide a complete solution for networking equipment vendors," said Erik Dixon, Vice President of Business Development and Operations for LVL7.

"We are giving our customers a verified, flexible software offering that will allow them to significantly reduce product development cycles."

One of LVL7's initial customers is Quantum Bridge Communications, a leading developer of optical access networking solutions. It is currently using LVL7's design services and has selected FASTPATHnp as its network processor software platform.

"We selected the FASTPATHnp platform because it gives us the functionality and customization to expand our optical access offerings," said Steve Hersey, Director of Technical Marketing for Quantum Bridge. "We have an aggressive schedule for bringing our products to market and LVL7's software enables us to rapidly respond to customer requirements."

Today, LVL7 announces a strategic partnership with Virata Corporation (Nasdaq: VRTA VRTA Vibration Reduction Test Aircraft (CH-47D Helicopter) ), a provider of communications software and semiconductors to networking manufacturers of DSL, wireless, satellite and other broadband networking equipment.

As part of the strategic agreement, LVL7 will develop FASTPATHnp offerings utilizing select Virata protocols, including Virata's industry leading Performance Optimized MPLS(TM) and its EmWeb(R) embedded web server Web server software embedded within a hardware device such as a print server. It is widely used in a myriad of devices, because it allows access to the software via any Web browser, typically for configuring the device or obtaining reports. See ETI and Web server.  software.

"We selected LVL7 as a Value Added Reseller See VAR.

because their completely integrated routing product offering complements our advanced software packages," stated Robert Zockoff, Vice President of Software Sales for Virata. "Our partnership with LVL7 will enable our multiple software technologies to reach a broader segment of the networking market."

LVL7's FASTPATHnp Software Offerings

FASTPATHnp(TM) 201

FASTPATHnp 201 is the foundation of the FASTPATHnp product line. FASTPATHnp 201 consists of Layer 2+ applications and protocols, including BootP, DHCP, XMODEM, TFTP, Spanning Tree, Flow Control, Port Mirroring, LAG (802.3ad), 802.1Q VLAN, 802.1p, GARP (General Attributes Registration Protocol) A standard for registering a client station into a multicast domain. See 802.1p.

GARP - A graphical language for concurrent programming.

["Visual Concurrent Programmint in GARP", S.K.
, GVRP and GMRP. FASTPATHnp 201 allows you to build an advanced switching product.

FASTPATHnp(TM) 300

FASTPATHnp 300 is used for advanced routing applications. It builds upon the foundation of FASTPATHnp 201, delivering RIP v1/v2, OSPF v2, VRRP, NAT and Access Lists. FASTPATHnp 300 is ideally suited for routers and other Layer 3 devices.

FASTPATHnp(TM) Multicast

FASTPATHnp Multicast is used in conjunction with FASTPATHnp 300. It is best suited for video and audio traffic requiring multicast packet control for optimal operation. FASTPATHnp Multicast includes IGMPv2, PIM-SM PIM-SM Protocol Independent Multicast-Sparse Mode (RFC 2362) , PIM-DM PIM-DM Protocol Independent Multicast-Dense Mode , MOSPF (Multicast extended OSPF) Extensions to the OSPF routing protocol that support multicast. MOSPF allows unicast and multicast routers to interoperate, but does not support tunneling as does DVMRP. Contrast with DVMRP and PIM.  and DVMRP (Distance Vector Multicast Routing Protocol) The first popular routing protocol to support multicast. Stemming from RIP and used in the Internet's Mbone (multicast backbone), DVMRP allows for tunneling multicast messages within unicast packets. .

FASTPATHnp(TM) Management

FASTPATHnp Management includes a Command Line Interface (CLI), Web Server, Telnet Server and SSL. This powerful option offers tested commands and web pages that can be seamlessly integrated into your product. FASTPATHnp Management offers SNMP v1/v2c/v3 and the accompanying MIBs that support the applications and protocols included in all of the FASTPATHnp packages. An enterprise MIB (1) (Management Information Base) The hierarchical database used by the simple network management protocol (SNMP) to describe the particular device being monitored. MIB objects are identified using ASN.1 syntax. See SNMP, RMON, OID and ASN.1.  is also included.

Future Enhancements

LVL7 continues to expand its FASTPATHnp software offerings to meet customer and market needs. Watch for future enhancements including MPLS, BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) The routing protocol that is used to span autonomous systems on the Internet. It is a robust, sophisticated and scalable protocol that was developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). 4, IPv6 and others.
