, Calif. -- Philips Lumileds Lighting Company's LUXEON(R) LEDs are fully compliant with the EU RoHS (Restriction of the use of Hazardous Substances) Directive that comes in to force across Europe from 1 July 2006. The company's AlInGaP SnapLED and AlInGaP SuperFlux LEDs also meet the directives now being implemented. Lighting designers, specifiers, architects and manufacturers working with these LEDs are assured they are compliant with the legislation and contain no lead, mercury or toxic gasses.

The RoHS directive bans new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury and a range of other substances from being placed on the EU market. All manufacturers must ensure that their products, and elements used within their products, fully comply with the regulations.
