Byline: KAREN MAESHIRO Staff Writer

NORTH EDWARDS -- Muroc Joint Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts.  trustees have hired a former superintendent from a Victorville school district to be interim superintendent while the search continues for a permanent top administrator.

Greg GREG Great Egg Harbor National Scenic and Recreational River (US National Park Service)  Lundeen, 57, had been at Victor Valley Union High School District for about six years before resigning in June with a contract buyout Buyout

``Things look pretty decent, the scores are great, people are wonderful,'' said Lundeen of the Muroc district. ``I will just kind of keep things on a status quo [Latin, The existing state of things at any given date.] Status quo ante bellum means the state of things before the war. The status quo to be preserved by a preliminary injunction is the last actual, peaceable, uncontested status which preceded the pending controversy.  and mind the store until the board hires a superintendent.''

Lundeen will work about 30 hours a week and be paid $2,250 a week plus $125 a week for travel reimbursement Reimbursement

Lundeen started work Thursday.

Mike Summerbell, the former Muroc superintendent who retired in August but stayed on as a consultant, will work a few hours next week to help out.

``(Lundeen) is available to the board until January if we need him. The expectation is it will be hopefully no longer than a couple of months,'' Summerbell said.

Lundeen joined the Victor Valley district in 2000 and served as assistant superintendent Assistant Superintendent, or Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), was a rank used by police forces in the British Empire. It was usually the lowest rank that could be held by a European officer, most of whom joined the police at this rank.  of business services, interim superintendent and then superintendent.

Of his departure from the Victor Valley district, Lundeen said, ``The board and I parted ways, and several other senior staff left.''

From 1990 to 2000, Lundeen worked in the Corcoran Unified School District in Kings County as director of maintenance and operations, director of administrative services, and then business services assistant superintendent.

Before working in education, Lundeen worked in private industry in construction and development.

``I was planning to stay home and get rooms painted, but they gave me a call. I'll be glad to help them out for a couple of months,'' Lundeen said.

Summerbell retired after 11 years at Muroc and two years in the top post.

The superintendent search process has taken several turns.

Trustees initially sought applicants from among district employees, drawing two applicants, but one then decided to leave the district and the other withdrew from consideration, trustees said.

The search was then expanded to include applicants from outside the school district, but the trustees did not find a suitable candidate from among the 15 people who applied.

Muroc then began talks with the superintendent of the El Segundo El Segundo (ĕl sēgŭn`dō), industrial city (1990 pop. 15,223), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1917. Its products include navigation and computer systems, aircraft parts, office machines, telephone apparatus, and  Unified School District, who was planning to retire, to work as an interim superintendent, but he, too, withdrew his name from consideration.
