With fuel prices through the roof, some large wood manufacturers are shutting down their conventional kilns rather than operate for negligible Nyle pioneered DH (Dehumidification) lumber lumber, term for timber that has been cut into boards for use as a building material. The major steps in producing lumber involve logging (the felling and preparation of timber for shipment to sawmills), sawing the logs into boards, grading the boards according to  drying kiln back in the 70s, on the heels of the OPEC OPEC: see Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.
