The onetime political rising star also is awaiting sentencing in Superior Court after pleading guilty to campaign-finance violations. ``This morning was another important step in the process to accept full responsibility for the actions I took during my primary election,'' Ludlow told reporters after entering his plea. Ludlow took no questions but said he is cooperating with investigators and that he and his wife are ``looking forward to getting on with the rest of our lives.'' While Ludlow's fate rests with the judges handling his cases, he has agreed to a deal with prosecutors that would avoid jail time but impose $180,000 in fines, a 13-year ban on holding a labor position and a four- year ban on serving in elected office. Prosecutors accuse Ludlow of conspiring with Janett Humphries, former head of Service Employees International Union Local 99, to use union resources to bolster his primary campaign in 2003. The pair allegedly fabricated documents to try to cover up the scheme but it was ultimately uncovered by union accountants after Humphries was ousted from her post. Humphries has pleaded not guilty in both state and federal court, while her attorney has said the blame lies with lower-ranking union officials.
