LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES LEADS IN WIRELESS INFRASTRUCTURE SALES OVER LAST 18 MONTHS ACCORDING TO MERRILL LYNCH.

Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) led the market for wireless network infrastructure sales over the 18-month period ending November 30, according to Merrill Lynch, a leading global equities research firm. Lucent had the highest total dollar value of publicly announced contracts during this time period having announced multi-year agreements worth nearly $10.6 billion, according to a report issued earlier this month.

"Lucent maintains the No. 1 spot, having announced the highest aggregate value of contracts over the last 18 months with 22 percent share," stated Merrill Lynch's December 2001 report, "Wireless Equipment: The Wireless Scorecards."

This confirms conclusions in a series of earlier Merrill Lynch reports, which for more than six months have consistently cited Lucent as having the highest aggregate dollar value of publicly announced contracts. In addition, an August 2001 report entitled "The Lady or the Tiger? First Half '01 3G Awards and Update" from Cahners In-Stat Group (http://www.instat.com), a leading market research firm, concluded that Lucent led the market for third-generation (3G) and 2.5G wireless network infrastructure in the first half of 2001 having announced multi-year agreements worth more than $6 billion, nearly twice that of its nearest competitor.
