LUCAS WINS CONTRACT ON SPARROW MISSILE

LUCAS WINS CONTRACT ON SPARROW MISSILE
FARNBOROUGH, England, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Lucas Aerospace has

been selected by Aerojet Propulsion Division, Sacramento, Calif., to supply the case for the rocket motor used on the MK-52 Mod II Sparrow Missile. Value of the contract is undisclosed.
This award, which has been won by the Defence Fabrications business located in Burnley, England, is in support of a U.S. export sale of Sparrow motor components. The export program is being managed by ASESCO, a subsidiary of Aerojet for International Operations. The delivery of motor cases is scheduled to begin in November 1992. Further potential awards could follow from expected worldwide sales.
The Sparrow family of missiles has been in production since 1956 and has become the standard medium range air-to-air missile upon which many such systems are based worldwide. Lucas also supplies the motor case for the Skyflash missile, the U.K. version of Sparrow.
Defence Fabrications is part of the international group of business units that comprise the Aircraft Systems Division, which, in addition to its rocket motor casing capabilities, designs, develops and manufactures equipment and systems for electric power generation, ice protection, missile casings and actuation, cockpit and cabin windows and cargo handling systems.
Lucas Aerospace is a leading supplier of aerospace systems and equipment with sales of $1.3 billion and operating facilities across Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific, as well as associated companies, joint ventures, marketing and customer support facilities around the world. The company is a subsidiary of Lucas Industries plc -- an international organization serving the aerospace, automotive and other selected markets, with sales of $4 billion.
