LUBRIZOL REALIGNS ORGANIZATION

CLEVELAND, April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- The Lubrizol Corporation (NYSE: LZ) announced today that it is eliminating its strategic business unit structure -- Lubrizol Petroleum Chemicals Company and Lubrizol Performance Products Company -- and realigning all of its activities into one combined Lubrizol organization. This new alignment is intended to meet changes in customer and market needs for performance chemicals and to enhance the company's competitive posture in key transportation and industrial markets.
"As the industry's leading supplier," stated Dr. L. E. Coleman, Lubrizol's chairman and chief executive officer, "we must be proactive in maintaining and enhancing our strategic edge. The new operating alignment will enable us to be even more customer driven and will position Lubrizol's organization to respond more rapidly and effectively to the significant technical and product challenges of tomorrow's marketplace.
"The new organization is expected to provide greater cost control and improved and more efficient organizational communications. It also will sharpen the focus of value-added services and customer support activities worldwide. We also have implemented initiatives to more effectively manage our manufacturing activities worldwide, to increase the timeliness and effectiveness of new product development, and to create a more simplified and rationalized product line."
The organizational changes are expected to be completed in planned phases by the end of 1993. No involuntary personnel separations are anticipated. While cost efficiencies are likely to accrue from the transition, the company emphasized that such cost savings were not a primary goal of the new alignment. "The focus is on serving customers," Coleman said.
The Lubrizol Corporation is a full-service supplier of performance chemicals for lubricants and fuels. The company operates 20 manufacturing and blending facilities, three major technical laboratories and 50 sales and technical service offices worldwide. Total revenues for 1992 were approximately $1.55 billion.
