LTV RECEIVES $42.7 MILLION FOR MLRS ROCKET PRODUCTION
DALLAS, March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Missiles Division of LTV

Aerospace and Defense has been awarded a $42.7 million contract for production of the U.S. Army's Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS). The contract calls for production of 3,714 tactical rockets and 5,592 practice rockets. It is the final incremental award for the fourth year of a five-year $1.2 billion contract.
Total funding for the fourth year is $214 million. Included in the production are 44 launchers, 24,000 tactical rockets and 5,592 practice rockets.
The majority of the work will be performed at the Missiles Division facility in Camden, Ark. The remainder will be competed at the division's headquarters in Grand Prairie, Texas. The rockets are scheduled to be completed by January 1994.
MLRS is a highly mobile automatic rocket system that permits its crew of three, with a minimum amount of training, to accurately shoot a complete 12-rocket load, quickly reload and fire again. The system was used for the first time in combat during Operation Desert Storm.
Each tactical rocket contains 644 grenade-like submunitions that blanket the target area with destructive firepower. The practice rockets, which are used in training exercises, contain smoke canisters to provide visual evidence of the warhead event. The rockets have a range of 20 miles.
LTV Aerospace and Defense manufactures missile, rocket and space systems; military vehicles and subassemblies for military and commercial aircraft. The 20th largest defense contractor in the United States, it is a subsidiary of The LTV Corporation (NYSE: LTV), a Dallas-based diversified manufacturing company also involved in steel and energy products.
