DSP (1) (Digital Signal Processor) A special-purpose CPU used for digital signal processing applications (see definition #2 below). It provides ultra-fast instruction sequences, such as shift and add, and multiply and add, which are commonly used in math-intensive  models into MaxLib, AXYS Design's library of models for SoC components. AXYS Design will distribute the ZSP DSP MaxLib models to LSI Logic customers along with its MaxSim Developer Suite. The models can be combined with a number of leading micro controller cores including ARM's ARM7 and ARM9, Infineon's C166S-V2 and TriCore, and embedded microprocessors based on MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second) The execution speed of a computer. For example, .5 MIPS is 500,000 instructions per second; 100 MIPS is a hundred million instructions per second.  Technologies' MIPS32 and MIPS64 architectures and cores. The first models to become available are for the second generation architecture cores, with ZSP400 models following soon.

For rapid deployment in SoC designs the generated models are readily integrated into the MaxSim Developer Suite, AXYS Design's tool for modeling and verification of multi-core SoC designs. Running 10,000 times faster than RTL (Register Transfer Level) A high-level hardware description language (HDL) for defining digital circuits. The circuits are described as a collection of registers, Boolean equations, control logic such as "if-then-else" statements as well as complex event sequences;  simulators, the C/C C/C Center to Center

++ based MaxSim enables fast, cycle-accurate and synchronous simulation of complex SoC designs incorporating one or multiple processor cores.

MaxSim SoC models can be used standalone or integrated into hardware simulation or hardware/software co-simulation tools. Third-party debuggers can be easily attached to one or more target processors within the MaxSim models for full visibility of processor details and synchronous debug control, making MaxSim an ideal environment for development of complex embedded SoC software and for architecture exploration.

"Our cores are regularly integrated together with microprocessor cores and our licensees need powerful simulation and debugging tools to develop embedded software early and more efficiently. MaxSim's interoperability with a host of EDA (1) (Electronic Design Automation) Using the computer to design, lay out, verify and simulate the performance of electronic circuits on a chip or printed circuit board.  and embedded software tools makes it the ideal platform for creating SoC level models for ZSP-based designs," said Tuan Dao, VP of DSP Products Division at LSI Logic Corp.

"ZSP DSP cores are licensed by a number of top tier companies including Broadcom, Conexant and IBM, and have been recognized as one of the best DSP cores of 2001 by analysts. We are excited to offer MaxLib models for ZSP cores to our joint customers." said Stefan Tamme, AXYS Design's vice president of marketing and sales.

AXYS Design has also joined the LSI Logic ZSP Solutions Partner Program, in which LSI Logic partners with industry leading technology providers to give customers the tools and application software solutions needed to accelerate DSP product development.

(DSP) technology. All ZSP technologies are offered in an open architecture format that is synthesizable and licensable. ZSP consists of two generations of DSP architectures, the first being offered as the ZSP400 core(s) for general-purpose communication DSP applications. The capabilities of the ZSP cores expanded in 2001 to include a second-generation architecture (ZSPG2).

LSI Logic Corp. (LSI) is a designer and manufacturer of communications, consumer, and storage semiconductors for applications that access, interconnect, and store data, voice and video. In addition, the company supplies storage network solutions for the enterprise.
