 LOZANO ENTERPRISES ANNOUNCES THAT IT
WILL NO LONGER PUBLISH EL ECO DEL VALLE
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Lozano Enterprises announced today from its corporate headquarters that it will no longer be publishing its weekly Spanish-language publication El Eco del Valle. The final edition will appear on Thursday, Jan. 2, 1992.
In an effort to prevent the paper's closure earlier this year, the San Fernando Valley-based El Eco staff was moved to Lozano Enterprises' headquarters, located in downtown Los Angeles. This effort proved unsuccessful, however; El Eco del Valle, although considered a high-quality publication, was not generating enough revenue to cover its operating costs.
Publisher Monica Lozano-Centanino stated that all efforts will be made to integrate El Eco personnel into the staff of its sister publication, the Spanish-language daily La Opinion. When such placement is not possible, community outreach efforts will be undertaken to secure their employment. "We appreciate the efforts of our people, and Lozano Enterprises has long enjoyed a loyal relationship with its employees," stated Lozano-Centanino. "We will continue that tradition despite these unfortunate circumstances."
Lozano Enterprises assumed ownership of El Eco del Valle in 1987. Years of steady circulation growth have been affected recently by poor economic conditions and escalating costs.
La Opinion will continue its efforts to serve the San Fernando Valley Hispanic community by offering Out of Primary Market Area discount rates to advertisers and by increasing its coverage of San Fernando Valley issues. Among its goals for 1992, La Opinion intends to develop a local San Fernando Valley edition.
