LOUISIANA-PACIFIC CORP. TO CONSTRUCT NEW INNER-SEAL OSB PLANT IN CARTHAGE, TEXAS

CONROE, Texas, Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Ronald L. Paul, Louisiana-Pacific Corp. (L-P) (NYSE: LPX) Southern Division general manager, today announced L-P's plans to construct a new Inner-Seal Oriented Strand Board (OSB) plant in Carthage. The plant will be built adjacent to the existing L-P lumber facility, located on Highway 149, approximately two miles north of Carthage. L-P is the leading OSB producer in North America having a total capacity of over 3 billion square feet a year. "We plan to start construction the latter part of 1994, after obtaining permits from regulatory authorities," according to Paul.
The new plant will employ 140 employees, which will increase L-P's employment level in Carthage to over 250 employees with a payroll in excess of $4 million. Annual capacity of the new OSB plant will exceed 300 million square feet of Inner-Seal OSB.
L-P's Inner-Seal OSB is a structural panel product utilizing multi-layered strands of controlled length, width and thickness of wood fiber, oriented and bonded together under extreme heat and pressure, utilizing a revolutionary new binder. The result is a superior multi-purpose building panel approved by the American Plywood Association.
Paul cited the availability of raw material, the positive business climate in Carthage and northeast Texas and the quality of the local work force as the reason for selecting Carthage. L-P has been a part of the Carthage community since 1973 when it began operations at its lumber manufacturing complex and has been in continuous operation for the past 20 years. The Carthage plant will be L-P's 20th OSB plant.
Louisiana-Pacific was the first major U.S. manufacturer of OSB products and is recognized as the clear leader in the field both in terms of production levels and technological innovation. L-P is a major building products company known for its innovation in developing high-performance, affordable, environmentally sound construction material.
