LOUIS J. CAPPELLI, CHAIRMAN OF STERLING NATIONAL BANK, JOINS DINKINS' COUNCIL OF ECONOMIC ADVISORS

 NEW YORK, Nov. 24 ~PRNewswire~ -- Louis J. Cappelli, chairman of Sterling National Bank & Trust Company of New York, has been appointed to Mayor David Dinkins' Council of Economic Advisors. Sterling National Bank is a subsidiary of Sterling Bancorp (NYSE: STL).
 According to Barry F. Sullivan, deputy mayor for finance and economic development, Mr. Cappelli, "will be a valuable addition" to the council, which consists of 21 other distinguished New Yorkers. The council acts as a sounding board for the mayor's economic and fiscal proposals, without renumeration.
 In response to his appointment, Mr. Cappelli said he was delighted to serve and considered his appointment one of the highest honors he has received since he began his career at Sterling National Bank 43 years ago. "The bank has been dealing with the economic challenges of New York City since it was founded in 1929. I am excited to have this chance to repay New York City for the wonderful opportunities it has given me," he said.
 Mr. Cappelli, born 61 years ago in the Bronx, a former director of New York University's Management Decision Laboratory and is a member of the Commercial Finance Association, Financemen's Club of New York, New York Institute of Credit, and the Cardinal's Committee of the Laity. He joined Sterling's predecessor company in 1949, and has held positions of increasing responsibility since that time. He is a graduate of the City College of New York and a U.S. Army veteran.
 Mr. Cappelli is married to the former Virginia Delger. They have five children and reside in Bronxville, N.Y.
