NEWHALL - Hoping that Lotto lightning might strike a third time, locals aiming for a piece of Saturday's state-record $140 million lottery lottery, scheme for distributing prizes by lot or other method of chance selection to persons who have paid for the opportunity to win. The term is not applicable when lots are drawn without payment by the interested parties to determine some matter, e.g.  waited to purchase tickets from Valencia Liquors, the scene of two winning tickets in recent years.

Faced with such a huge sum of money, David Caldera admitted that planning a vacation would be a little different if he won.

``We'd go on vacation for a year,'' he said. ``Where would we go? Everywhere.''
