LORAL RECEIVES $13.3 MILLION CONTRACT TO REDESIGN SPACE STATION RADIATORS.DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--January 31, 1995--Loral Vought Systems, a division of Loral Corporation Loral Corporation was a small Bronx defense contractor on the verge of bankruptcy when in 1972 it was acquired by Bernard Schwartz, who over the course of the next two decades built it into a major player in the global aerospace and defense industry, acquiring sixteen other defense (NYSE NYSE See: New York Stock Exchange :LOR LOR Letter Of Reprimand (military) LoR Lord of the Rings (J.R.R. The contract calls for the production and delivery of six 2,300 pound radiator assemblies for liquid cooling operations. Each radiator measures 11 wide by nine feet long by three feet deep when retracted re·tract v. re·tract·ed, re·tract·ing, re·tracts v.tr. 1. Each radiator assembly is capable of releasing at least 11 kilowatts of excess heat, thereby providing cooling to the crew compartment and spacecraft equipment. The Loral-produced radiator assemblies will rely upon a pumped liquid ammonia heat transfer system to cool the space station. Loral Vought Systems is a subcontractor to McDonnell Douglas Aerospace on the program. The total value of Loral Vought's heat- rejection system contracts now exceeds $85 million. Loral Vought also produces radiators for cooling the space station's photovoltaic The generation of voltage by a material that is exposed to light in the visible and invisible ranges.
