LONGTIME NEWSPAPER EXEC JOINS DAILY NEWS' PARENT COMPANY.

Veteran newspaper executive James L. Pollard has been named vice president of advertising and marketing of the Los Angeles Newspaper Group The Los Angeles Newspaper Group is an umbrella group of local daily newspapers published in the greater Los Angeles area by MediaNews Group. Pollard replaces Bob Balzer, who recently was named publisher of the Inland Valley California's Inland Valley is a region that inlcudes parts of San Bernadino, and Riverside counties. As the name implies, the Inland Valley is situated on the inland side of the Santa Ana Mountains in southern California. Pollard has been advertising sales director at the Houston Chronicle since 1990. He worked for nine years previously for McClatchy Newspapers, serving as advertising director at the Fresno Bee and retail advertising manager of the Sacramento Bee. Prior to 1981, Pollard spent 12 years with Harte-Hanks Communications in various advertising management posts.

In addition to the Daily News and the Bulletin, the Los Angeles Newspaper Group, which is based at the Daily News in Woodland Hills, operates the Long Beach Press-Telegram The Long Beach Press-Telegram is a major daily newspaper published in Long Beach, California.
