VALENCIA -- Jim Dahlenburg, who worked for more than half a century as a mailroom mail·room

He was 66.

Dahlenburg was just 15 when he took a job as a part-time mail inserter for what was then known as the Valley News and Green Sheet. He witnessed several changes to the newspaper and its production, including its name change to the Daily News.

Dahlenburg worked his way up at the newspaper and for more than 30 years, he helped keep the packaging and distribution equipment operating.

A resident of North Hollywood, Dahlenburg was remembered by coworkers Tuesday as an avid AVID Cardiology A clinical trial–Antiarrhythmics Versus Implantable Defibrillators that compared the effect of implantable defibrillators vs the best medical therapy–antiarrhythmics for survivors of MI or those with nonsustained ventricular tachycardia  Lakers See Lake poets  fan, who was well liked in the pressrooms in Valencia. Coworkers said each time Dahlenburg was asked when he would retire, he would say "maybe five years from now."

"He rarely missed a day at work and he was always willing to jump in and do anything, even when he got a little older," said Dahlenburg's supervisor Steve Tumbusch. "He was 66 but he could still do the same job he was doing as if he was 25."

Tumbusch said Dahlenburg had just returned from a two-week vacation to Hawaii and had been suffering from a cold. But he still showed up for work on Saturday and stayed for his shift.

"He was a very nice guy," said Tumbusch, who worked with Dahlenburg for 28 years. "He had lots of friends here. This was his second home."
