LONGHORNS PUT ON THAT '70S SHOW WINS BIG 12 TITLE, ROSE BOWL BERTH TEXAS 70, COLORADO 3.Byline: Walter Hammerwold Staff Writer HOUSTON - It took an appeal by coach Mack Brown, an 11th-hour change of opinion by poll voters and an end around run past Cal in the final Bowl Championship Series standings to send the Texas football team to the Rose Bowl last season. On Saturday, the Longhorns Developers Saw It in 2003 In October 2003, the first pre-beta of Longhorn was given to attendees of the Microsoft Professional Developers Conference (PDC). A second release was given out at the WinHEC conference in May 2004. The first formal, public beta is expected in 2005. Downsized in 2004 A storage subsystem, known as "Windows Future Storage" (WinFS) was originally scheduled for the first release of the Longhorn client. made sure their second January trip to Pasadena wouldn't be so contentious. No. 2 Texas (12-0) routed Colorado (7-5) 70-3 with a punishing defense and a high-powered offense that smothered the Buffaloes in front of a partisan crowd of 71,107 in the Big 12 championship game at Reliant Stadium. The Longhorns scored on nine of their first 10 possessions and matched last year's 42-3 Oklahoma-Colorado final score at the half en route to the most lopsided victory in Big 12 title game history. Texas will become the fourth straight Rose Bowl champion to reach the BCS title game the following season and the fifth Big 12 team to play for the series championship when their selection is made official today. The Longhorns will play top-ranked USC, which beat cross-town rival UCLA 66-19 at the Coliseum on Saturday. ``We've waken up and we're smelling the roses right now,'' defensive lineman Larry Dibbles said. ``We're taking aim on the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, and we just want to go out there and bring back the big thing, the big ring, out here to the great state of Texas.'' The victory gave the Longhorns their first Big 12 title since 1996 and Brown his first conference title with any school. And it gives Texas a chance at its first national title since 1969. Texas quarterback Vince Young completed 14 of 17 passes for 193 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another 57 yards and a score before being pulled early in the third quarter. A platoon of Texas running backs amassed 201 yards on the ground - led by freshman Jamaal Charles, who carried seven times for 62 yards and two touchdowns and caught another on a 3-yard pass. After giving up 42 and 69 yards on the Buffaloes' first and third drives, the Longhorns' defense held Colorado to one first down the rest of the first half.
