After marriage, Edith became a homemaker and seamstress as she raised three children. She also worked at First Lutheran School in Van Nuys, setting up their school library. Pat was born and raised in Los Angeles and graduated from Van Nuys High School Van Nuys High School (VNHS) established in 1914, is a high school in the Van Nuys area of Los Angeles, California, belonging to the Los Angeles Unified School District: District 2. in 1941. After graduation, he joined the Navy, serving in World War II. He then worked for Pacific Bell, retiring from there after 36 years.
