They have four children: Karen Bomyea of West Hills, Annette Nellen of San Jose, Janet Bomyea-Smith of West Hills and Barbara Bomyea of West Hills. They also have two grandchildren. They were married on Feb. 6, 1954, in Lindsay, Calif. Verna worked as a homemaker until they started their own business, where she worked as a secretary for three years. Jim worked for IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries) for 15 years before starting a computer business in 1973 in Van Nuys. He retired in 1988. Verna and Jim were foster parents for many years, caring for more than 40 children. To celebrate their anniversary, they have gone on several cruises this year and had many dinner parties, each with its own anniversary cake. They have two children: Debra, deceased, and Mark, of Simi Valley. They also have four grandchildren.
