LONGEVITY MARRIED 50 YEARS: ESTELLE AND STEWART COWEN.

Estelle and Stewart Cowen of Reseda celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with family friends on Jan. 28 at the Hilton Woodland Hills. They were married on Jan. 26, 1956, in Los Angeles.

Despite living very close to each other in Detroit, where they were born, they met in Los Angeles. They dated off and on for about nine months before getting engaged.

He worked at several jobs before being drafted by the Army to serve in the Korean War Korean War, conflict between Communist and non-Communist forces in Korea from June 25, 1950, to July 27, 1953. In Los Angeles, she and Nathan both attended Los Angeles City College Los Angeles City College, known as LACC, is a public community college in the Hollywood section of Los Angeles, California. Anna also worked for Los Angeles County as an eligibility worker.

Nathan grew up in Warsaw, Poland. He studied violin at the Chopin Institute and the Conservatory of Warsaw.

When his family immigrated to the United States, they settled in Brooklyn, N.Y. He graduated from Townsend Harris High School Townsend Harris High School is a public magnet high school for the humanities in the borough of Queens in New York City. . He also attended the Music School of the Henry Scott Settlement. Following that, he taught violin at several schools as well as privately.

He also played with several local symphonies and Broadway productions before serving in the military as part of the Army Signal Corps.

Following his stint in the military, he performed in the Baltimore and Pittsburgh symphonies. Both Nathan and Anna performed together in many productions.

They have three children: Joanie Hieger-Sosike and Robert Hieger, both of New York City and Carl Hieger of Zurich.
