LOCAL WOMAN CELEBRATES CENTURY.

Byline: Posted by Minerva A. Hernandez valleynews.com user

The open house held Tuesday afternoon was definitely not in Kansas, but it sure looked like it while observing people following the made-up ``Yellow Brick Road.''

I'm referring to the West Hills Health and Rehabilitation rehabilitation: see physical therapy.  Center located in Canoga Park, which opened its doors to the public to visit, and help celebrate Virgie Hughes' 100th birthday at the same time.

I don't know Don't know (DK, DKed)

"Don't know the trade." A Street expression used whenever one party lacks knowledge of a trade or receives conflicting instructions from the other party.
if, in her younger years Virgie ever celebrated her birthday in such a big way, but if she didn't, this certainly made up for it.

hopped down the ``Yellow Brick Road'' for her Majesty the Queen -- Virgie.

There were signs all over which read: ``There's No Place Like Home,'' as well as memorabilia, large and small from the classic movie.

Credit should be given to each and every one who worked so hard in putting the event together. Since that would be impossible, as they say in show business, how about if I just mention them as a group?

There is no question that the kitchen personnel, maintenance department, nurses and facility administrators all deserve a round of applause.

In addition, I must say that Marian H. Caloz, director of marketing and admissions, is certainly a pro at what she does.

Not only do the residents look up to her, but the facility's personnel do so as well.

The Wizard of Oz theme certainly fits the facility: ``There's No Place Like Home.''

``We are committed to providing the best of care to our residents,'' said Caloz.

A listening ear is as important as physical care. One of the reasons the theme the Wizard of Oz was chosen, is precisely because we desire to make our residents feel much at home as possible.

West Hills Health & Rehabilitation Center is located in Canoga Park, but its residents are from all over the city.
