LOCAL ROUNDUP : CSUN WINS AT WEBER STATE.Byline: Daily News Wire Services Trenton Cross and Gerald Rhoden scored 22 and 20 points respectively to lead Cal State Northridge to an 89-76 victory over Weber State Thursday night in Ogden, Utah. Tom Samson had 15 rebounds and 10 points for the Matadors (11-10 overall, 7-6 Big Sky Conference). CSUN led 15-7, but the Wildcats (12-12, 7-7) went on a 10-0 run highlighted by Nathan Miller's 3-pointer to give Weber State its only lead at 17-15 with 7:48 left in the half. CSUN took its widest margin of the half at 29-21 with 3:19 left on back-to-back 3-pointers by Rhoden. The Matadors led 35-30 at the half and widened their lead in the second half. Cross scored seven points in the first eight minutes of the second half, including a 3-pointer with 11:40 to play to put CSUN up 57-41. The Wildcats then played the Matadors even the next 6-1/2 minutes. CSUN's biggest lead of the contest came with 5:20 to play as Rhoden made two foul shots to make it 79-61. Ryan Cuff, who led the Wildcats with 18 points, made two 3-pointers and Patrick Wrigg added a layup to close the score to 80-69 with 3:14 to play. Cuff and Alex Fisher, who had 11 points, each made a 3-pointer in the last 30 seconds, but the Wildcats came no closer than 87-76. Although the Matadors did not score a field goal in the last five minutes, they hit 12 of 21 free throws to secure the victory. USF 56, Pepperdine 46: Mark Nees scored all seven of San Francisco's points during a decisive second-half stretch as the Dons held off the Waves for their fifth straight home victory. San Francisco (13-12, 8-5) held Pepperdine (6-19, 4-9) without an offensive rebound for the game. The Dons scored 15 second-chance points of their own. San Diego 72, Loyola Marymount 69: Brian Miles came off the bench to score a career-high 26 points and Alex Davis, another reserve, scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half as the Toreros held off the Lions in San Diego. The win was the fourth straight for San Diego (15-10, 7-6 West Coast Conference). The Lions (6-19, 3-10), who beat the Toreros 73-68 when the teams played last month at Loyola Marymount, suffered their sixth straight loss. |
