Soccer: The Santa Clarita United Roadrunners won all five of their games to capture the girls' under-14 division in the Simi Valley Labor Day Invitational tournament over the holiday weekend. In the preliminary rounds, the Roadrunners defeated the California Legends 1-0, with a penalty kick by Kelley Hess. Natalie Sozio scored to lift the Roadrunners 2-1 over the Bakersfield Extreme. Sunday, in a 4-1 victory over the Camarillo Eagles, Nicole Modugno scored on a free kick and also earned an assist on a goal by Nicole Norris. Brenda Cornjo and Kelley Hess also scored. That put the Roadrunners atop pool B and moved them into the medal round. In the semifinal match on Labor Day, Natalie Sozio earned a hat trick against the South Bay Force. With a final score of 7-4, the Roadrunners made their way into the final - a rematch with California Legends. At the end of regulation play, the score was 3-3. Near the end of the second overtime period, Kelley Hess, assisted by Natalie Sozio, scored the game-winning goal. Hess earned MVP honors. With the first-place finish, the Roadrunners qualified for the Nike Triple Crown Soccer Finals, a national tournament to be held in Denver in July 1997.

Roller hockey: Registration for Palmdale's youth roller hockey leagues will be accepted for one more week. Practices will start Sept. 30, and the season will begin Oct. 14. The fee is $70. The youth roller hockey league is for children 7 to 17. Proof of age is required. The entry fee includes a picture package, a jersey and a trophy. There will be three practices before the first game. Games will be played at the city's two new outdoor roller hockey rinks at the Hammack Activity Center, 815 E. Ave. Q-6.

Carwash: Santa Clarita United Soccer Club Tsunami will host a fund-raising carwash from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday outside American Pacific State Bank, 23238 Valencia Blvd., Santa Clarita. Information: (805) 251-4590.

Class reunion: The Canyon High School reunion committee is looking for members of the 1985 championship football team to attend the class reunion Saturday at the Radisson Valley Center Hotel, 15422 Ventura Blvd., Sherman Oaks.

Coach Harry Welch will attend, and the program will include dinner, a video presentation with football highlights, memory books and door prizes.

Golf tournament: The annual Scholarship Celebrity Classic, hosted by Baltimore Orioles baseball player Todd Zeile, a Hart High School alumnus, will be held Nov. 11 at Valencia Country Club.

The tournament will include golf, dinner, prizes and awards. Numerous baseball players participate every year. Those scheduled to compete this year include Mike Piazza and Eric Karros of the Dodgers, Chicago Cubs Brian McRae, Frank Thomas of the Chicago White Sox, Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia's Greg Jefferies and Bret Saberhagen of Colorado.

Proceeds from the tournament will go to College of the Canyons to help finance scholarships and student programs and services.

Roller hockey: The Santa Clarita Roller Hockey Center's fall youth hockey season sign-ups have begun. Leagues for youngsters 4 to 17 are being formed. The season will open Sunday. The air-conditioned center is hosting the National In-line Hockey Association regional playoffs for those 17 and younger today and Sunday. Two local teams, the Santa Clarita Storm and Santa Clarita Patriots, are among nine teams vying for a spot at the national finals in Las Vegas. For more information, call (805) 287-3333.
