LOCAL NOTES.Softball: The Hustlers, a local Simi Valley team, claimed the SCMAF ``D'' Finals Championship October 26 and 27 in Lancaster. Their record was a perfect 5-0 record. Tournament MVP, Jess Davis, was an astonishing 18 for 19, .947 average. All-tournament players, Paul O'Hara .889 and Phil Hendericks .650 also played important roles in the tournament domination. Umpire clinic: If you have the desire to umpire adult softball, we will offering an umpire clinic in late January. After just three week-nights, you will be a certified Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation (SCMAF) official and be eligible to work for Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District. Cost for the clinic is $8. Clinic will be held on the following Wednesdays: January 15, 22, 29 and February 5 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. And there will be a field clinic the week of February 17-21. Softball: The West Valley ASA softball team will be holding tryouts Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Moorpark High School. Baseball: Simi Valley Little League will offer registration sign-ups for Spring Baseball every Saturday and Sunday in January from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the league fields on Royal Avenue at Darrah Street in Simi Valley. Tryouts are scheduled for Jan. 25 and 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the league fields. The Little League Spring season will begin March 8. The league is looking for coaches and managers for teams. More sign-ups: The Conejo Recreation and Park District Office invites you to register for winter recreation activities. The following programs are included: Beginning golf will be held Jan. 30 through March 6 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Los Robles Golf Course driving range. This program will help introduce the game of golf to individuals age 16 and up. Gymnastics will be held Monday through Wednesday evenings and Saturday morning at Thousand Oaks High School. This class is for tots through advanced levels and also includes apparatus. Group tennis classes for children, teens and adults will be held Monday through Thursday evenings and Saturday morning at Triunfo Park, Borchard and Thousand Oaks Community parks, North Ranch and Wildflower Playfield. This class is for beginners through intermediate. Sign-ups: The Conejo Recreation and Park District Sports Office is accepting applications for the 1997 Coed Adult Winter/Spring Volleyball League. The district will accept mail-in registrations from in-district teams through Jan. 10. Late entries for in-district and out-of-district teams may register in person at Crowley House/Sports Office, 2522 Pleasant Way, Thousand Oaks, beginning Jan. 13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Winter/Spring league consists of one pre-season match and a 10-week league season beginning Feb. 9. Matches will be played Sundays at Borchard and Thousand Oaks community centers. Four divisions are offered. This league is open to anyone 16 years and up. Official fees are $8 for each match. Entry fees are $187 for in-district teams and $224 for out-of-district teams. The manager's meeting will be held Jan. 30 at the Old Meadows Center, 1600 Marview Drive, Thousand Oaks.
