Golf: The Paraclete High School Booster Club will hold the fifth annual Paraclete Golf Classic, a golf tournament fund-raiser on Oct. 12. The tournament will be a four-man scramble with a shotgun start. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. at Elizabeth Lake Golf Club, 42505 Ranch Club Road. Entry fee for the tournament is $75 per person, which covers green fees, shared use of a golf cart, tee gifts, awards and a catered dinner. Sign-ups will be limited to 144 participants. Each player must bring a set of clubs and also must wear a collared shirt in order to comply with the facility dress code. Individuals or businesses can sponsor tees or greens at $75 each. Win a new Honda or a new boat. Two hole-in-one contests will be sponsored by Robertson Palmdale Honda and Hardin Sea Ray. Proceeds from the fifth annual event will benefit Paraclete High School athletic programs. Baseball: Final tryouts will be held today and Sunday for the High Desert Heat, a traveling baseball team for boys 15 and younger. Football: Registration will continue until Sept. 6 at the Palmdale Parks and Recreation Department office, 32260 10th St. E., for flag football and adult coed volleyball. Practices for flag football will begin Sept. 16, and games will start Oct. 5. The flag football fee is $35, and the program is designed for children 7-14. Proof of age is required. The entry fee includes a jersey, a picture package and a trophy. Games and practices are held at McAdam Park, Desert Sands Park and Marie Kerr Park. Adult coed volleyball games will begin Sept. 10. Game nights are Tuesdays and Thursdays, and the team fee is $120. All teams play one classification game prior to the start of league play. Games are played in local high school gymnasiums.

Biathlon: The High Desert Biathlon Club will sponsor a biathlon Labor Day at the Lake Hughes Community Center. The races will start at 8:30 a.m., following an 8 a.m. safety clinic and shooting practice. The biathlon is a 6-mile cross-country race with air-rifle marksmanship shooting.

Roller hockey: Registration for Palmdale's youth roller hockey leagues will be accepted until Sept. 13. Practices will start Sept. 30, and the season will begin the week of Oct. 14. The fee is $70. The youth roller hockey league is designed for ages 7-17. Proof of age is required. The entry fee includes a picture package, a jersey and a trophy. There will be three practices prior to the first game. Games will be played at the city's two new outdoor roller hockey rinks located at the Hammack Activity Center, 815 E. Ave. Q-6.

Roller hockey: The Santa Clarita Roller Hockey Center's fall youth hockey season sign-ups started Aug. 22. Leagues for ages 4-17 are being formed and the fall session will open Sept. 15. The facility is indoors and air-conditioned. The SCRHC is hosting the National In-line Hockey Association regional playoffs for ages 17 and under today and Sunday. Two local teams, the Santa Clarita Storm and Santa Clarita Patriots, are among nine teams vying for a spot at the national finals in Las Vegas. For information, call [phone].
