LOCAL NOTES.

Volleyball: Moorpark College defeated Alan Hancock 15-4, 15-8, 11-15, 16-14 in a Western State Conference match Wednesday. Kristin Lee had 27 kills and 18 digs to lead the Raiders. Crystal Crawford added 11 kills, and Michelle Capuana had nine kills and four service aces for Moorpark. Julie Watson had 50 assists. Moorpark plays Ventura today at 7 p.m.

Football: Calabasas JV defeated Moorpark 14-7 on Friday night. Running back Matt Getz rushed 21 times for 105 yards. Quarterback Dallas Enoch carried the ball 13 times for 83 yards and one touchdown. He also had four completions for 60 yards passing. Fullback Drew Coppola ran 12 times for 56 yards and one touchdown.

Defensive tackle Bill Green keyed the defense with crucial tackles. When Moorpark had the ball on the Calabasas 45 yard line on fourth and one, Green tackled the running back in the back field for a three yard loss to stop the drive. The Coyotes took over possession and scored. ``I think our team played the best game all season. It was our league opener, and we needed to get off to a good start. Everyone played hard,'' said coach Steve Probst. Calabasas was without six of its starters, out with injuries. Calabasas will play Santa Paula today.

Football: Westlake JV (5-1) defeated Thousand Oaks 35-20 on Friday night. Quarterback Mike Field was 26 of 37 for 360 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Warriors. Wide receiver Kevin Howard caught eight passes for 187 yards and was on the receiving end of all three of Field's touchdown throws. Doug Hutton scored one touchdown on a five-yard run. Linebacker Justin Nelson recovered a fumble and ran it back for a 25-yard touchdown. Westlake plays Camarillo on Friday.

Basketball: The Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District will accept registrations for the 1997 youth basketball leagues Saturday. Your child must be present at time of sign-ups in order to be tested for skills. Children must be retested each year. All registrations will take place at the Rancho Santa Susana Community Center.

Boys' league sign-ups for the seventh- and eighth-graders will be held from 9 to 10 a.m., fifth- and sixth-graders are scheduled from 10 to 11 p.m., and third- and fourth-graders from 11 a.m. to noon. The girls' league sign-ups for seventh- and eighth-graders are scheduled from noon to 12:30 p.m., fifth- and sixth-graders from 12:30 to 1 p.m., and third- and fourth-graders from 1 to 1:30 p.m.

The season is scheduled to begin in January at local gyms, and games are usually played on Saturdays. The cost is $35 per player. For more information, call [phone] with any questions.

Basketball: The Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District is looking for volunteer youth basketball coaches to share their knowledge of the sport with boys and girls in grades three through eight for the 1996 season.
