Byline: Heather MacDonald Staff Writer

VALENCIA - Amber Seat, 20, should be used to this by now.

For the Washington, DC radio station, see WAMU.

at lunchtime Monday. The group was hired by Seat's husband, Josh, who is prone to making big scenes.

``Oh, this is so embarrassing,'' Seat said, blushing a brilliant red. ``Josh proposed this way, too, by making a big scene. I should have known.''

The choir surprised significant others all over Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. ``It's a lot of fun to see the expressions on people's faces,'' said singer Mandy Braham, 17. ``Especially when some of them start to cry or get all emotional.''

Withdrawals and deposits slowed to a crawl as the singers clustered around Seat's teller window. The usual lunchtime bank customers sighed, nudging their friends.

``It's nice to see people touched and excited,'' said Missy Suarez, 17, another singer. ``And it's a fun way to earn some money.''

The singing telegrams come in $25, $50 and $100 packages. Josh Seat paid $50 for two a-cappella songs, flowers and a box of chocolates.

The choir has been delivering singing telegrams for three years, said Mary Purdy, the choir's director.

The singers will also serenade serenade [Ital. sera=evening], term used to designate several types of musical composition. Opera and song literature yield numerous examples of the serenade sung or played by a lover at night beneath his beloved's window; outstanding is  diners at the inaugural ``Dinner in the Canyon,'' a romantic evening at two Sand Canyon estates March 10, hoping to raise money for the trip.

Getting back to work, Seat realized she has bigger problems than a few minutes of embarrassment at the public display of her husband's affection.

``I was supposed to make all of the Valentine's Day plans this year,'' Seat said. ``I haven't done anything, and now I have no idea how to top this.''
