LOCAL NOTES : T.O. SWIM COACH QUITS.

Byline: Daily News

Bill Gemberling, who led the Thousand Oaks High School swim teams to 12 Marmonte League titles and 90 victories in his nine years as coach, resigned Monday topursue his teaching credential.

Gemberling finished with a combined 90-15-1 record. He led the boys' team to seven league titles, including 35 straight victories between 1989-94. The girls' team won five league championships under him.

Gemberling has been a substitute teacher in the Conejo Valley School District.

``When I started, I had money in the bank, and I've driven myself poor,'' he said. ``I wouldn't be able to do both.''

Gemberling said he hopes to return to coaching one day.

``I'd especially love to get back before (freshman) Aaron Gyuris finishes. He's going to do some serious accomplishments before he's done,'' he said.

New athletic director: Grace Brethren boys' basketball coach Scott Nandor has been hired as athletic director. Nandor led the Lancers to a 14-7 record and a playoff berth.
