LOCAL NOTES : LOUISVILLE'S WITT IS MISSION MVP.

Louisville High School's Becky Witt has been chosen the Mission League Player of the Year in softball.

Witt, a junior outfielder playing in her first season of high school softball, led Louisville to a second-place finish in league play.

Chaminade freshman Maureen LeCocq and Louisville sophomore Stefanie Urman were voted the league's co-MVPs among pitchers.

Simmons to Iowa: Valley College forward Vernon Simmons, a former Simi Valley High star, has commited to play basketball at the University of Iowa Not to be confused with Iowa State University.
The first faculty offered instruction at the University in March 1855 to students in the Old Mechanics Building, situated where Seashore Hall is now. In September 1855, the student body numbered 124, of which, 41 were women.
. The 6-7 Simmons was All-Western State Conference for theMonarchs this past season.

 at Birmingham High, with Chatsworth taking on Poly at Pierce College, both Tuesday at 3 p.m.

The Kennedy-El Camino Real game was originally set for Pierce, but top-seeded Kennedy preferred to play at Birmingham.

In softball, Saugus will play its Southern Section Division II semifinal against La Mirada at the William S. Hart complex Tuesday. In Division I, Camarillo will play Foothill at Orange Coast College Orange Coast College (OCC), founded in 1948, is a community college providing two-year associate of arts degrees, and lower-division classes transferable to other colleges and universities. . In Division V, Moorpark will play Notre Dame (Riverside) at Riverside City College. Chaminade High School is a Roman Catholic high school for young men in Mineola, New York. In 1930, Alexander Ott, S.M.
 outfielder Jason Giovannettone has decided to try out for the UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles
UCLA University Center for Learning Assistance (Illinois State University)
UCLA University of Carrollton, TX and Lower Addison, TX
 baseball team as a walk-on next fall.

Giovannettone batted .368 for the Eagles. He also was an All-Southern Section pick in football, but baseball will be his primary sport.

Volleyball honors:Harvard-Westlake's Jason Morrow and Rick Rauth have been selected the co-Players of the Year in volleyball from the Mission League.

Funeral for ex-Taft star: Former Taft High track/basketball standout Cornell Hill was killed in an automobile accident earlier this week. A funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the First AME See AIT.  Church in Los Angeles. Hill, a 1991 Taft graduate, set a school long-jump record and finished third in the state.
