LOCAL NOTES : CRESPI SEEKS ALL-VALLEY FOOTBALL LEAGUE.

Byline: Daily News

Crespi High School principal Rev. Fred Tillotson has taken the first step toward trying to form a San Fernando Valley League in football by proposing the Celts leave the Del Rey League in 1998.

Tillotson has made a proposal to the Catholic Athletic Association of forming a football league that includes Crespi, Alemany, Notre Dame, Chaminade, Harvard-Westlake and St. Francis. He has the support of all five principals.

The CAA will soon begin hearing proposals for re-leagueing. By early next year, the CAA is supposed to send its recommendations to the Southern Section.

``I think there's determination on the part of these six principals to push this strongly,'' Tillotson said.

Crespi and Alemany compete in the Division I Del Rey League dominated by powers Loyola and Bishop Amat.

Thogersen commits: Newbury Park High School pitcher Chris Thogersen has given an oral commitment to the University of San Francisco.

The 6-foot-5 Thogersen is the second local player to commit to San Francisco, coached by former Cal Lutheran coach Rich Hill. Calabasas catcher Josh Goldfield also has orally committed to the Dons.

Thogersen is the eighth local high school baseball player to announce he will sign an early national letter of intent. Hart pitcher Bobby Graves has narrowed his choices to Oklahoma and Georgia Tech. The first day to sign is Nov. 13.

New soccer coach: Yusuf Yagmur has been named the new girls' soccer coach at Saugus High School. Yagmur's son, Shahan, played on the boys' team last year.

Softball tryouts: The Outlaws, an 18-and-under traveling softball team, will hold tryouts Saturday at 10 a.m. at Pierce College. Information: (818) 368-8728.
