LOCAL NOTES : CONEJO VALLEY BEATS CAMARILLO IN FINAL.

The Conejo Valley The Conejo Valley is a region spanning both Southeastern Ventura County and Northwest Los Angeles County in Southern California, United States. It was discovered in 1542 by Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, and eventually became part of the Rancho El Conejo land grant by  boys' sixth-grade traveling team successfully completed its season by winning the Ventura County Youth Basketball Conference championship.

Conejo defeated Camarillo 62-50 at Newbury Park High School.

Rob Daniels led all scorers with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Mike Pettit added 12 points and eight rebounds for Conejo.

Corey Mazza had 12 points and five rebounds and Ryan Zary had 11 points, including two key 3-point baskets in the third quarter.

Conejo Valley completed its season with a 12-1 league record and 30-8 overall.

Soccer: Conejo Valley United Clash, a boys-under-11 soccer team, rounded out its season by capturing the League Cup title on March 23.

In the semifinal game, the Clash defeated Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Bill's Dream 3-1. Goals were scored by Rabeh Ghadban, Marcus Mulick and Brain Siu.

In the championship game, the Clash defeated the Camarillo Eagles 2-1. Mulick scored both goals.

Baseball: Signups for the Simi Valley Big League are Sunday and April 13 from 1-3 p.m. on the senior field at the Simi Valley Little League complex on Royal Avenue.

Big League (ages 16-18) begins in May. Big League players compete against other Ventura County teams.

Diving: Dive Thousand Oaks is taking applications for the spring session.

Children 9-16 can learn the fundamentals of springboard diving with age-group competitions.

Softball: Signups for the Calabasas Softball League this summer are under way.

There will be adult and co-ed leagues. Games are played Sundays at the A.E. Wright Middle School in Calabasas. Men and women over 18 are eligible. Cost is $25 for a 10-game season, with a $1 per-person, per-game fee for umpires.

Swimming: The Conejo Simi Aquatics swim team is hosting a series of free-stroke clinics today through Friday from 5-6 p.m. and again Saturday from 9 a.m.-noon at Rancho Simi Pool in Simi Valley.

At Saturday's event, U.S. Olympian Annette Salmeen will sign autographs and answer questions. Admission is free.
