The 1996 Lu Dawgs baseball camps are taking place at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. Day sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday throughout the summer. Softball: Simi Valley Girls Softball will host its fourth Fast Pitch All-Star Softball Tournament on Friday through Sunday.

Nearly 60 teams have expressed interest in participating in this year's summer classic. The tournament's theme, Olympic Dreams, is a tribute to the 1996 USA Women's Olympic team and to all of the women who have dedicated their lives to the sport of women's softball. For the first time in Olympic history, softball will be a medal sport.

The local tournament will be played at Arroyo Fields, Susana Park, Rancho Simi and Wood Ranch. Nearly 650 softball players in the 8-and-under through 14-and-under divisions will play in the three-day competition. Teams finishing first, second or third in each division will receive trophies.

T-shirts and shorts will be on sale and several equipment manufacturers will display their products. All proceeds will go to support future Simi Valley Girls Softball All-Star and recreation programs. There will be sports camp giveaways and other prizes throughout the three-day event.
