LOCAL NOTES : ANNOUNCEMENTS . . .

Basketball Valencia High's junior varsity team ended the season with a 16-7 record, 6-4 in the Foothill League. Freshman Manuel White led the Vikings in scoring, averaging 18 points. White was promoted to the varsity at the end of the season and got nine rebounds in the Division II playoff game Friday against Compton.

``He has a lot of quickness, and is a good post player. But as a freshman he still has a lot to learn,'' said coach Rocket Collins.

Freshman point guard Royce Minor led the team with six assists per game and also averages 10 points. ``I think that Minor is very mature for his age. I'm confident that he will be the one to run the offense for the varsity next year,'' Collins said.

Others to watch: Junior Brian Otis averaged 10 points a game. And sophomore Mark Sisson was the best defender on the team. ``I put Mark on the other teams best player, he normally shut them down,'' Collins said. Freshman John Harris replaced Manuel at center when he was moved up and averaged 14 points per game the last three games of the year.

``I was very proud of my team this year. Everyone played hard. Our goal was to hold the other team to 10 points or less per quarter and score 15 points per quarter, I feel we did that.'' Collins said.
