John Hazelton, who resigned recently amid charges of recruiting after his second season as head football coach at Burbank, will coach as an assistant at Berkeley High School Berkeley High School refers to the following high schools:

"It's been offered and accepted," said Hazelton, who has coached previously as an assistant at L.A. Banning and Montclair Prep.

Berkeley, a North Coast Section semifinalist last season, is coached by Mike Tuiasosopo, whose cousins were both coached by Hazelton at Banning.

Local all-stars: Three former local high school football stars will end their college careers this weekend in all-star games.

The Mid-Valley Magic 16-and-under girls' fastpitch softball Fastpitch softball is a sport played commonly by girls, though male and co-ed fastpitch leagues also exist. The United States fastpitch softball team has won back-to-back-to-back gold medals at the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Summer Olympics.  traveling team will hold tryouts Sunday at 1 p.m. at Louise and Oxnard Streets in Encino.
