LOCAL NOTES: FOOTBALL CAMP SWITCHES SITES.

The Student Sports Nike Football Camp, the preseason's most high-profile combine, is April 14 at San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. More than 200 of Southern California's top prospects will weigh in and run the 40-yard dash and 20-yard shuttle. They'll also do vertical jumps and bench-press repititions of 185 pounds.

Hart High lineman Chris Frome and quarterback Matt Moore, Taft receiver Steve Smikth, Kennedy lineman Victor Romero and Alemany defensive back Albert Griffin are expected to participate.

``We're really hoping to see Steve Smith. We consider him the top wide receiver in the state,'' said Greg Biggins, Student Sports' recruiting director.

Besides raising their stock, athletes also will meet with top Nike trainers who will offer conditioning tips.

Haywood served as an assistant under Kevin Wiser this season and athletic director Athletic director (commonly, "athletics director") is a position at many American colleges and universities, as well as in larger high schools and middle schools, which oversees the work of the coaches and related staff involved in intercollegiate or interscholastic athletic  Marilyn Hyman said in February that Wiser would resign after the season and Haywood would take over.

Before moving to Louisville, Haywood spent four years at Highland High, two as boys' varsity coach and two as girls' varsity coach.

However, he is an excellent volleyball player as well and he proved that by dominating Taft of Woodland Hills Friday in a 9-15, 15-10, 15-4, 15-4 victory. Charleston, a 6-7 outside hitter, finished with 36 kills and six blocks as the Lancers improved to 3-0 on the year. In the process, they avenged a loss to the Toreadors in the City Championship semifinals last year. Taft went on the win its second-straight City title.

    Freeman, who transferred to Oak Christian from Chaminade, has been one of the biggest surprises in the region with the first-year Lions, keeping them competitive despite playing varsity for the first time. She was especially effective last week while pitching Oaks Christian to the championship of the Lincoln Park Lincoln Park, city (1990 pop. 41,832), Wayne co., SE Mich., a suburb adjacent to Detroit, on the Detroit River; inc. 1921.
