LOCAL LITTLE CAESARS PIZZA TO FEED HUNGRY PEOPLE ON WORLD FOOD DAY
DETROIT, Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- In its sixth year of involvement with World Food Day nationally, Little Caesars(R) Pizza in Detroit will feed more than 450 needy people at two local soup kitchens on Oct. 16, as part of the international event to call attention to the world hunger problem (see note for schedule).
World Food Day will be recognized by the 158 nations that make up the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on Oct. 16 with conferences and fund-raising activities.
In support of the event, Little Caesars has fed more than 165,000 needy people in past World Food Day efforts. The chain expects to raise that number to more than 190,000 people this year.
The company's efforts are reported to be the largest scale corporate World Food Day direct feeding project in North America.
"World Food Day is an opportunity for people and organizations everywhere to eliminate hunger in their communities," said Patricia Young, director of the National Committee for World Food Day in Washington, D.C. "It is our hope that the years of continuous commitment shown by corporations such as Little Caesars encourages others to follow their example."
Aside from their annual World Food Day efforts, Little Caesars also operates the non-profit Love Kitchen Foundation -- two mobile pizza restaurants that provide nutritious meals to soup kitchens and shelters throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Since the Foundation's inception in 1985, the Little Caesars Love Kitchen has fed more than 750,000 people in 48 U.S. states and three Canadian provinces.
On World Food Day, the two Little Caesars Love Kitchen mobile pizza restaurants will serve the needy at soup kitchens and shelters in Wilmington, N.C., and Flint, Mich.
Little Caesars Pizza, based in Detroit, is the world's largest carry-out pizza chain, with approximately 4,100 restaurants in all 50 states, Canada, England and Puerto Rico. By the end of 1992, the pizza chain projects to have 4,575 restaurants open with $2.16 billion in systemwide sales.
