LOCAL CYCLING GROUP OFFERS PLENTY OF PEDAL.Byline: Kirby Lee Special to the Daily News The Conejo Valley The Conejo Valley is a region spanning both Southeastern Ventura County and Northwest Los Angeles County in Southern California, United States. It was discovered in 1542 by Spanish explorer Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, and eventually became part of the Rancho El Conejo land grant by Cyclists was founded on the premise of providing an outlet for recreational bicyclists. More than 15 years later and 100 members strong, the club has continued to channel its resources in that area. Summer-evening rides include the racer-sprint ride on Tuesdays and a ride for all abilities on Wednesdays. Both rides start at 6 p.m. at the Landing parking lot on Lindero Canyon Rd. near Triunfo in Westlake. Wolfpack rides begin at 6 a.m. weekday mornings at the old Shell station at the southwest corner of Moorpark and Olsen Rds. They are usually 15 miles with some good climbs. There are no stops but nobody gets dropped. Each Tuesday at 6:15 a.m. there is a mountain-bike ride at the south end of Moorpark Road, a 1-1/2 hour session with climbs and technical sections. There are also racer-training rides on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings that meet at 6:15 a.m. at Conejo School Rd. and Hillcrest at 6:15. These are category III and IV rides that do not wait for dropped riders.
