LOCAL BASEBALL: NO AREA CODE FOR C.V.'S EMMONS.

Luring high school baseball players away from the Area Code Games, where they can perform in front of hundreds of college and professional scouts, isn't easy.

Emmons is one of five Crescenta Valley High players on the San Gabriel Valley The San Gabriel Valley is one of the principal valleys of southern California. The tournament begins today, but San Gabriel Valley has a first-round bye and doesn't play until Saturday morning.

Emmons, who recently committed to UC Riverside, will be looking to add team success to the personal glory already gained this week when he threw three hitless innings Monday at the Area Code Games.

San Gabriel Valley is aiming for its second World Series title in three years.

His 80.76 rating was the highest among California participants.

Back in action: Chatsworth outfielder Bobby Coyle, who was hospitalized and sidelined for several weeks because of injuries suffered in a collision with another player while running down a fly ball during an all-star game in June, is playing again and participating in the Area Code Games. He's played center field for the Brewers Gray.
