LOCAL: PREP EXTRA : ATHLETES OF THE WEEK.ANDREW MOORE For other persons named Andrew Moore, see Andrew Moore (disambiguation). Andrew Moore (1752–April 14, 1821) was an American lawyer and politician from Lexington, Virginia. He represented Virginia in both the U.S. House (1789-97, 1803-04) and the U.S. Senate (1804-1809). Crespi Sophomore guard Moore put on one of the most impressive shooting displays in recent memory, hitting four consecutive 3-pointers during a decisive fourth-quarter run to lead Crespi to a 42-38 upset win over Mission League rival Chaminade on Friday. Moore, a quiet 6-foot-0 shooting guard The Shooting guard (SG), also known as the two or off guard,[1] is one of five traditional positions on a basketball team. Players of the position are often shorter, leaner, and quicker than forwards. , entered the quarter with just four points but finished with 18 thanks to his brilliant shooting display. His final 3-pointer with just over two minutes left put Crespi ahead for good, 39-36. ``I got in a groove and I felt like I couldn't miss,'' said Moore. ``After that first one, I just felt like I could hit anything.'' Crespi coach Dick Dornan had an inkling that somebody would step up in the fourth quarter. ``I knew somebody would get hot, I just didn't know who it would be,'' Dornan said. ``But Andrew stepped up and got the job done. He's a special player.'' The Wolverines have that threat now. Junior Rachel Burkons has rebounded from a so-so sophomore season to become one of the Wolverines' top players. Wolverines coach Rich Corso said Burkons is ``light years'' ahead of where she was last year. ``She's improved so much,'' Corso said. ``She's got a lot of confidence now . . . She's not only confident with the ball, but she's become a strong defensive player.'' We are the team to beat (in league). We have to play up to that standard.'' - Damaris Hinojosa Moorpark High girls' basketball star HEAD 2 HEAD SCOTT BORCHART Sophomore forward Chaminade Borchart, a 6-foot-8 forward, is one of the top sophomore prospects in the country, a gifted, heady player who can shoot, rebound and defend. He's only a 10th-grader, but Borchart plays beyond his years, combining tremendous court sense with a high level of skill. Borchart projects as more of a perimeter player in college, but he plays in the post for the Eagles. Still, he presents problems because he can knock down the medium-range outside shot as well as dominate around the basket. ALEX HOLMES Alex Holmes (born August 22, 1981 in San Diego, California) was a National Football League tight end. Professional career Holmes played for the Miami Dolphins in 2005 and signed as a free agent with the Saint Louis Rams for 2006. Junior forward Harvard-Westlake This 6-foot-4, 300-pounder presents trouble with his deceiving quickness, athletic ability and shooting touch. He looks like a banger - which he can be - but he has the ability to step out to the perimeter and knock down 3-pointers. Holmes can use his size and strength to knock Borchart out of the block, then body him up with heavy leans to deny him easy looks in the paint. Offensively, Holmes needs to be aggressive, run the court, look for his shot down low but also bring Borchart outside.
