LMKI (OTCBB: LMKI), a leading network service provider, and ArrowPoint Communications (NASDAQ: ARPT), a leading provider of Web switches, today announced an agreement to create a Content Distribution Network (CDN) throughout LMKI's data centers and network backbone to boost content delivery and site performance. The new service, called GeoDirector, will be enabled by ArrowPoint's Content Smart(TM) Web switches and Web Network Services (WebNS(TM)) software.

LMKI's GeoDirector service will provide high-traffic, Internet and Intranet-based Web sites with an efficient way to quickly deliver more content to more end users without a costly investment in server infrastructure or the need for a separate content distribution services vendor. This will be accomplished by pushing high-demand content out to LMKI caching clusters located in 18 LMKI data centers throughout the United States.

More than 18 ArrowPoint CS-800 Web switches - the only generally available chassis-based Web switch in the industry - will face LMKI's caching clusters, enhancing their ability to optimize content delivery by replicating frequently accessed data at geographically dispersed cache locations. By allowing end users to access cached data from a local server, GeoDirector enables LMKI's customers to distribute content faster and more effectively to prepare for unexpected increases in demand. ArrowPoint's Web switches enhance LMKI's cache clusters by replicating popular content and sending requests for non-cacheable content around the caches and directly to origin servers. The Web switches also accommodate flash crowds by automatically replicating suddenly popular "hot" content on demand.

ArrowPoint's Unique Cache Acceleration Capabilities

ArrowPoint's Web switches boost the performance of the GeoDirector cache servers by intelligently bypassing them when users request dynamic, non-cacheable content often used in e-commerce transactions. These standard caches, known as transparent and reverse proxy caches, push all client requests to the cache server whether the requested content is cached there or not. Requests for dynamic, non-cacheable content require the server to re-route requests back to the original Web server, slowing down the network with extraneous processing. ArrowPoint solves this problem by supporting both reverse proxy caching (RPC) and Network Address Translation (NAT) peering. These technologies enable ArrowPoint Web switches to bypass transparent or reverse proxy cache servers when dynamic content is requested, offloading the cache from having to redirect dynamic content requests, and thereby increasing cache server efficiency as much as 400 percent. When the Web switch determines that a GeoDirector cache server is down or the content is unavailable, it redirects the client to the origin server automatically - a feature no other caching solution can provide.

ArrowPoint's Web switches make switching and forwarding decisions based on any combination of IP addresses, uniform resource locators (URLs), cookies, and secure socket layer (SSL) session IDs. All of this helps ensure Web site content availability and delivery for LMKI customers. Competing products claim to provide content intelligence, but can only perform simple hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP)-based content verification checks or limited URL parsing.
