LMDC names new chair and construction czar.

As fast-paced construction work continues round the clock on the Freedom Tower and transit hub at Ground Zero, Governor Pataki announced two new important appointments to the Trade Center project. Both men will have to hit the ground running in order to meet the deadlines set by officials.

Current estimates put the price tag near $1 billion. Pataki and Mayor Mike Bloomberg have set the end of June as the deadline for resolution.

Rampe will coordinate with Sciame to meet this deadline and ensure the memorial is complete by September 11, 2009. In addition to this, Rampe will delegate projects and make certain that work on the site is consistent with architect Daniel Libeskind's Master Plan.

Officials expressed confidence in both men.

"Kevin Rampe has shown an unwavering commitment to the rebuilding and revitalization of Lower Manhattan and he will make an outstanding chairman," Governor Pataki said. "As the former President of LMDC and member of the Executive Committee of the World Trade Center Memorial Foundation, Rampe has already made tremendous contributions to the rebuilding effort and been a tireless advocate for the creation of a fitting and appropriate memorial to our lost heroes. He brings the dedication, experience, energy and insight necessary to keep the momentum going on the reconstruction of the World Trade Center and the revitalization of downtown."

Rampe joined the LMDC in March 2002 and served as the LMDC president for over two years.
