LIVING MEMORIAL N. HOLLYWOOD TREE PLANTING HONORS VICTIMS OF SEPTEMBER TERROR ATTACKS.

NORTH HOLLYWOOD - Friends and family members of some of the Californians killed in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks gathered at North Hollywood Park on Saturday to plant trees in memory of their lost loved ones.

In the photograph above, Alfanso Cisneros writes a message in memory of his son, Juan Cisneros, who died on the 104th floor of the north tower of the World Trade Center. Lidia Cisneros kisses the tree planted in her son's memory.

In the photograph at right, Rachel Marley, 2, listens to Monica Hidalgo as she explains that a tree will be planted in honor of Hidalgo's aunt, Cora Hidalgo Holland.

The nonprofit Hollywood Beautification Team proposed planting trees because ``trees represent life, growth, beauty and longevity,'' officials said.

Los Angeles City Councilman Tom LaBonge and members of the Los Angeles Police and Fire departments were there to participate in the ceremony.

Organizers planned to plant 85 trees, one for every victim from the Los Angeles area, but they said the list of local victims continues to grow as word of the memorial spreads.
