LIVING CENTERS OF AMERICA SETTLES ALABAMA LAWSUIT

 HOUSTON, Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Living Centers of America, Inc. (NYSE: LCA), has been notified that the insurance carriers have settled, on behalf of the insured, a previously announced Alabama lawsuit. On Nov. 19, 1993, there was an unfavorable verdict as a result of a 1990 incident at a facility acquired by the Company in the merger effective Oct. 1, 1993, with Vari-Care. Subsequent to the jury verdict, the plaintiff agreed to settle the case within the limits of insurance coverage, thereby eliminating any potential adverse effect to the Company.
 Living Centers of America, Inc., is the fourth largest provider of long-term health care in the United States. The company operates 242 centers in 10 states: Texas, Colorado, Florida, Oklahoma, Alabama, Louisiana, Nebraska, Wyoming, Arizona and Mississippi. Of the 242 centers, 180 provide long-term care and 62 are devoted to the care of people with mental retardation and developmental disabilities.
