 LIVE COVERAGE OF GARDEN STATE GAMES ON CABLE
 TRENTON, N.J., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The Garden State Games opening


ceremony will be cablecast live on the Cable Television Network of New Jersey (CTN) from Rutgers University in New Brunswick on Friday, July 10, from 7-9 p.m., it was announced today by CTN.
 This weekend marks the tenth anniversary for the Garden State Games. The opening ceremony kicks off the weekend of competition for over 30 sports from archery to wrestling. All age groups and abilities compete in the Olympic-style sports festival. The Garden State Games has grown in the past ten years to be the competitive arena for Olympic hopefuls.
 Erik Howard, of the New York Giants, and Theresa Grentz, coach for the United States Olympic women's basketball team, are scheduled to speak to the athletes on Friday night about their careers in sports.
 The inspiring two-hour ceremony will include the annual torch lighting ceremony, parade of athletes, singing and dancing performances, karate demonstrations and interviews with the state's Olympic hopefuls.
 CTN will also air a two-hour highlight program on Wednesday, July 15, from 7-9 p.m. that will feature exciting competition from the weekend's events, interviews with top athletes and the announcement of medal winners.
 Steve Mayer, sportscaster formerly with Mizlou Productions, and Ray Funkhowser, executive director of the Garden State Games, will host the live event from Rutgers University, with CTN's Laura Zdroik interviewing athletes and Olympians.
 Live coverage of the event was made possible through contributions from Schering-Plough, Storer Cable, Sammons Communications, Suburban Cablevision, Adelphia Cable and TKR Cable of Hamilton.
 The program will be produced by CTN, a service of the New Jersey Cable Operators.
