LITTLE LEAGUERS PLAY BALL NEW SEASON STARTS IN CASTAIC.

CASTAIC - More than 200 kids in baseball uniforms kicked off another season of Castaic Little League at the Castaic Regional Sports Complex on Saturday.

As hot dogs cooked on the grill and younger children lined up to have their faces painted, former major league pitcher Al Downing Al Downing may refer to:

League President Eli Wettenstein agreed that involving children in sports is the best way to make sure they get exercise and develop self- esteem.

``It definitely gives them something to do, so they stay out of trouble,'' said Wettenstein, father of two boys who play in the 19-team league. ``And it teaches them discipline. But the most important thing to remember is that it's all about the kids.''

 Janaszek, wearing No. 10 for the Giants, said winning comes second to giving his best effort.

``I like having fun and meeting friends,'' the second-grader said. ``My favorite My Favorite is an independent synthpop band from Long Island, New York. They released two CDs: Love at Absolute Zero and Happiest Days of Our Lives. My Favorite broke up on September 14, 2005, when singer Andrea Vaughn left the band.  (big league) team is the Angels.''

 Janaszek, said her husband and her two boys recently moved to Castaic from Texas. The fourth-grade teacher at Castaic Middle School admitted her sons Joey and 5-year-old Jack couldn't wait to start playing.

``They want to play everything. When they heard their friends were playing baseball, they begged us,'' she said. ``We love California. You can't beat this. Plus I get to watch some of my students play, too. It's a great atmosphere.''
