LITTLE LEAGUE: PITCHER CARRYING NORTHRIDGE.

GARDEN GROVE Garden Grove, city (1990 pop. 143,050), Orange co., S Calif., a suburb of Long Beach and Los Angeles, on the Santa Ana River; founded 1877, inc. 1956. The Northridge Little League baseball standout is just 12 years old but has the look of a high school athlete, pitching a six-hitter with nine strikeouts in an 8-1 victory over West Covina West Covina, city (1990 pop. 96,086), Los Angeles co., S Calif., in the San Gabriel valley; settled 1905, inc. 1923. Bowman also hit his third homer in two games.

The hard-throwing right- hander has proved to be Northridge's ace pitcher, and he has totaled six home runs to help Northridge (11-0) to the tournament championship game at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday at Garden Grove West against an opponent to be determined.

If Northridge loses, the teams play again Wednesday.

Previously undefeated West Covina (10-1) entered with 19 home runs, but Bowman didn't allow a hard-hit ball and gained strength in the late innings INNINGS, estates. In three Southern California Divisional games, Bowman is batting .571 with three home runs and seven RBIs, and he has a 0.00 ERA with 14 strikeouts in seven innings.

Not since 1994, when it appeared in the World Series final, has Northridge qualified for the Western Regionals.

Canyon Springs 7, Moorpark 2: Ill-timed errors proved costly for Moorpark (8-3), which ended its season after losing twice in three games. Moorpark's Blake Barnes singled and scored on Alex Nelson's sacrifice fly in the first inning a run, and Jesse Peredes walked and scored on Broc Hass' grounder in the sixth.
