LITTLE GUNS POP OFF KENNEDY, WALBECK, GIL GO DEEP FOR ANGELS ANGELS 6, CHICAGO 5.

Byline: Dave Werstine Staff Writer

ANAHEIM - A day after the Angels' heavy hitters took a toll on the Chicago White Sox The Chicago White Sox are a professional baseball team based in Chicago, Illinois. The White Sox are a member of the Central Division of Major League Baseball's American League. From to the present, the White Sox have played in U.S. , their little guns made a big noise.

The only players in the Anaheim lineup with single-digit homer totals - Benji Gil Romar Benjamin Gil Aguilar (born October 6, 1972, in Tijuana, Mexico) was a Major League Baseball utility player.

Gil made his Major League Baseball debut with the Texas Rangers on April 5, 1993.
, Adam Kennedy For other people with the same name, see Adam Kennedy (disambiguation).

Adam Thomas Kennedy (born January 10, 1976 in Riverside, California) is a Major League Baseball player. He currently plays second base for the St. Louis Cardinals.

Kennedy attended J.W.
and Matt Walbeck Matthew Lovick Walbeck (Born: October 2, 1969 in Sacramento, California) is a former righthanded Major League Baseball catcher who played from 1993 to 2003 for the Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins, Detroit Tigers, Anaheim Angels and Philadelphia Phillies.  - each hit solo homers as the Angels came from behind once again to beat the White Sox 6-5 before 25,881 on Saturday at Edison Field.

``We can't always wait for the middle of our lineup to carry us,'' Angels manager Mike Scioscia
Michael Lorri "Mike" Scioscia (born November 27 1958 in Morton, Pennsylvania) is a former catcher and current Major League Baseball manager. His last name is pronounced SO-shuh. He is often referred to by the nickname Sosh.
said. ``When guys who we look for to place balls come through with home runs, it's great. Those guys gave us a big lift.''

The win was Anaheim's 26th come-from-behind victory of the year and the second in as many games.

``We have been behind more than what we have been comfortable with,'' Scioscia said. ``We are very resilient and that's indicative of how we've been able to come back. . . . I sound like a broken record.''

``We are doing what we have to do,'' said Mo Vaughn
Maurice Samuel 'Mo' Vaughn (born December 15, 1967 in Norwalk, Connecticut), nicknamed "Hit Dog", (a nickname given to him by his Omega Psi Phi fraternity brothers at Seton Hall University) was a Major League Baseball first baseman from 1991 to 2003.
, who had the winning blast Friday but went hitless Saturday. ``We have lots of heroes every night.''

The most recent heroes weren't the usual suspects, but the trio of light-hitting Gil (fourth homer), Kennedy (seventh) and Walbeck (sixth) was enough to rescue starter Kent Bottenfield (7-8) and make him a winner.

Bottenfield cruised through the first two innings before the White Sox knocked him around for five runs on six hits - the key blow being Paul Konerko's two-out, bases-loaded double in the third - over the next two to take a 5-2 lead.

But Bottenfield, who gave up nine hits with three walks and three strikeouts, managed to hold off Chicago until help arrived from the bullpen with two outs in the sixth inning.

``I don't think his outing was as bad as his line score shows,'' Scioscia said. ``He put some zeroes up after and kept us in the game.''

Relievers Al Levine, Shigetoshi Hasegawa and Troy Percival, who picked up his 25th save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning, combined to no-hit the White Sox the rest of the way.

``Those guys in the bullpen are doing a great job,'' Scioscia said. ``I can't say enough about them. They are the reason why we are where we are We are where we are is a Scottish idiom for pretending to accept the status quo, and to imply that previous events should be forgotten. It is based on the fact that it is impossible to turn back the clock. .''

While it wasn't its usual self, the meat of the Angels' lineup didn't go unnoticed against the AL Central-leading White Sox, who fell a game behind Atlanta for the best record in the majors.

Troy Glaus smacked his team-leading 31st homer, a solo shot in the second inning to give Anaheim a 1-0 lead off Chicago starter Mark Buehrle, who also surrendered leadoff homers to Gil in the third and Walbeck in the fifth.

Two innings later, Tim Salmon stroked an RBI RBI

double off loser Lorenzo Barcelo (0-1) to score Gil and made it 5-5 when he scored on Garret Anderson's ensuing double.

Kennedy's homer just inside the right-field foul pole off in the fifth inning proved to be the game-winner.

``I'll tell you what,'' Gil said, ``and it's not just me saying it, but the big guys have said all along that it's a team effort. It just seems like everyday it's someone else.''
